The Sunday Post #6

Sunday Post #6

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted at the @ Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead

Life
I have been so glad of the long weekend – after a couple of weeks of breathing issues which are finally starting to resolve, I then had a couple of super fun autistic meltdowns. Tuesday evening in Tesco hardly any of the things we went for were there, and other things were in the ‘wrong’ place. Then Wednesday at work… it was super loud in the office (always is on a Weds but this was worse than normal), there was unexpected financial controller in the office sitting next to me (argh!) and then there was a very loud, very ongoing, noise coming from the hangar (I work in an airport, my office is attached to a hangar) that didn’t stop and got to the point where I was in tears and one of my colleagues figured out where it was quieter. Thursday, thankfully, was a WFH day so I kinda decompressed, watched tennis and kep the work laptop from locking.

Also on Wednesday, though, was my partner Li’s birthday – we had Krispy Kreme donuts, and I got her some Animal Crossing Lego which she was absolutely thrilled with. We also have postponed plans to go to the zoo!

Cooking
I made ramen from scratch for the first time yesterday and OMG it was so good. Well, when I say from scratch, I had a pre-made carton of chicken ramen broth, and I didn’t make my own noodles this time. But stir-fried the chicken, a pack of stirfry veg, soft boiled egg… will definitely be doing it again and I’ve found a recipe to make my own broth!

And Li made some hot cross buns – she loves to bake as much as I love to cook. They’re a little doughy – the yeast didn’t quite do its thing all the way (either because it wasn’t active enough or because of the cinnamon we think) but they’re still super sticky and delicious! But again, for a first time, a resounding success! (I’m eating one now)

Listening
I have been in a complete 00s pop/punk mood this week, fondly reliving my mid-20s where I followed both Good Charlotte and Simple Plan on multiple tours around the UK, front row centre for every gig. My old car was even named Lotte AND was signed by Good Charlotte. I have so many set lists, drumsticks, plectrums and signed CDs/tickets from those days.

My most played track of last week was Good Charlotte – I Don’t Wanna Be In Love which I remember by (now ex)girlfriend and I ended up making up some ridiculous dance for over the course of the Good Morning Revival tour 😂

Playing
This is going to make me feel super old LMAO but I have been completely obsessed with playing Bingo Voyage on my phone over the last couple of weeks. I picked it up because it was way to earn extra dilithium in Star Trek: Timelines (and I had crew stuck on the starboard bow) but OMG I can’t stop playing

I picked up Little Library in the sale on Steam as well – think Stardew Valley but you’re running a library… right? How could I not!

Reading
I finished How To Be A Renaissance Woman by Jill Burke
I’m currently reading The Twat Files by Dawn French, and Murder at Kings Crossing by Andrea Penrose
Next up is Summer at the Santorini Bookshop by Rebecca Raisin and Pandora’s Jar by Natalie Haynes

Studying
I have been working my way through the early math on Khan Academy. And before you ask – yes, I work in finance. But I have dyscalculia. I know. Hilarious.

But honestly, that’s part of why I’m doing it. There are gaps in my understanding that go way back, and instead of just pushing through like I always have, I figured it was time to actually go back and learn it properly. No pressure, no judgment – just me, Sal’s soothing voice, and some very friendly math problems.

Also? It’s kind of wild seeing how this stuff is taught now. I was so little when I first “learned” it, and as an adult, it’s actually interesting to revisit with fresh eyes

You know what though? After only a couple of weeks, I can already see an improvement in my mental arithmetic thanks to some new-to-me ways of doing addition and subtraction and some practice doing it.

Tennis
There were two ATP 500 tournaments last week – one in Barcelona and one in München. I had players in the finals of both (Carlos Alcaraz in Barcelona and Ben Shelton in München) but sadly neither of them won 🙁
It was also the last year, after 6 years, that David Ferrer is acting as tournament director for Barcelona which is also a little bit sad. Oh my love for Ferru in the 2010s, let me show you it LOL

We’re also coming to the end of Jannik Sinner’s suspension, he’s been able to start training again this week and we’ve been seeing some footage of him on a tennis court. I’m also very happy because it means we’re seeing his coaches as well (I may have a thing for them and my Tumblr is tennisdadsaficionado because of it!

Watching
It’s been a good week – we’ve been able to catch up on Ancient Greece by Train, Celebrity SU2C Bake Off, Gladiators, The Hit List, Pointless, Pointless Celebrities, and the Secret Genius of Modern Life

This week I’m hoping to get up to date on Doctor Who and finish the final season of Bull

  1. Math is a subject that I never understood unless I was taught the practical application. For example, I never really understand algebra until I took chemistry. So I completely understand going back and giving different sections of math another look. Glad you are finding success with it.

    1. Oh for sure – maths can be so abstract, I really struggled with percentages until I had to use them in my job but I still have to stop and think which way around I do the sums before I calculate them
