Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic β putting your unique spin on it if you want. Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to The Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
This week’s topic isn’t inspiring me (I’m a no-crossovers kinda fandom llama), so I’m picking one from the archives: Books I’d Want On a Desert Island
I figured I’d want a good combination of books I know I’ll enjoy, long-ass books, and books I’ve been meaning to get around to reading but for some reason never have. And so this gives us:
Jean M Auel – Clan Of The Cave Bear
Marion Zimmer Bradley – The Mists of Avalon
Susanna Clarke – Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
Ken Follet – The Pillars Of The Earth
Belinda Jones – On The Road To Mr Right
Stephen King – The Stand
Sharon Kay Penman – The Sunne in Splendour
Anne Rice – The Lives Of the Mayfair Witches
Anne Rice – Queen Of The Damned
Samantha Shannon – Priory Of The Orange Tree
(I’m also assuming that the shipping container with the rest of the books in series’ have been wrecked with me on my desert island)
What books would you take on a desert island?
Ooh, fun idea. These books would keep one occupied for sure. π
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell and The Priory of the Orange Tree are a couple of my favorites. I hope you love them when you get to them.
Those are definitely big books to keep you occupied! I would have to throw in a couple of comfort read books, the kind that I can read over and over again and still enjoy.

I did have to re-do it to add On The Road to Mr Right – it and Queen of The Damned are books I can (and have) read many times. It didn’t feel right not to have some chick lit on there!
You have picked some interesting reads to keep you occupied while on the desert island. I’m not sure what I would want to read.

It’s always fun to see what books people would pick to go to a deserted island.
I’d definitely want some long books to help wile away the time. Also, they’re good for re-reading since there’s usually stuff I pick up on a re-read that I didn’t notice the first time. I hope you’re never actually stranded on a desert island, but if you are, I hope it’s with a bunch of books!
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

I love this topic! Really makes you think about which books you really love and which will keep you going through all that loneliness you experience and the desert island. Great post!
Priory would certainly keep you occupied for a while on a desert island!

Oh, great twist this week! The Pillars of the Earth and The Stand are both waiting on my bookshelf. Those doorstops would make great books to read if you’re stranded on an island! π
I haven’t read Pillars of the Earth yet but I do know that the book is over 1000 pages. Good plan. Pick long books for your extended stay marooning. Ha!
